Careers Statement & policies

Queensbridge Careers Statement & policies

At Queensbridge School we believe that all pupils have an entitlement to experiences, encounters, information, advice and guidance that supports them in being prepared and in making informed choices about their future. This journey starts as they enter school in Year 7 and continues until they have been fully supported to secure a placement in Year 12. We are committed to a programme that is aspirational for all young people and ensures that all students from Years 7 to 11 receive quality careers guidance whilst at school, motivating and enabling all of our pupils to
progress onto exciting new futures post 16.

Aims and Outcomes

  •  Students, parents, teachers, governors and, where appropriate, employers know and
    understand the careers programme
  •  Students and parents have quality information about future study options and labour market
    opportunities
  • Advice and support is personalised to ensure equality and diversity

  • Teachers link curriculum learning with careers
  •  All students have opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and skills
    for the workplace
  •  All students have first-hand experience of the work place (Year 10)
  •  All students should be aware of the full range of learning opportunities available to them,
including academic and vocational routes and learning in schools, colleges, universities and
    the work place
  • All (Year 11) students should access interviews with a careers advisor, tailored to meet
    individual need

Monitoring & Evaluation

Our school measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme on pupils against the 8
Gatsby Benchmarks and through the Careers and Enterprise Company Compass Tool updated every term.

We work closely with an Enterprise Coordinator and Advisor who help navigate the way forwards in continuing to provide a stable and comprehensive careers programme.

Events and Encounters

A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers an
opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils and/or their parents/carers:
At our ‘Guess My Job’ event for Year 7 pupils, employers from a diverse range
of backgrounds commented:
“It was great to see what the kids thought about jobs, it was interesting that they knew some jobs
but really had a very narrow view of the jobs market. They concentrated on traditional jobs like
doctors, accountants, estate agents and shop workers.” (Digital Glue Agency)

Year 9 Guided Choices

When students are deciding on their KS4 options, many of them will want to consider how these
subjects could lead into future career paths. The attached document suggests some links
between careers and school subjects. Year 9 Career Pathways
