Preparing for our new readers
As part of our commitment to fostering a love of reading, we were thrilled to welcome our incoming Year 7 students with special Reading Bags to kickstart their journey at our school.
Each bag was thoughtfully prepared by our dedicated librarians and student leaders, and included a selection of items designed to inspire and support our new students over the summer:
- Kick by Mitch Johnson – a gripping and inspiring story to spark curiosity and discussion.
- A Summer Reading Challenge Booklet filled with fun activities to help students prepare for Year 7 and engage with their reading.
- A beautifully designed bookmark, created by one of our talented current students.
- A reusable water bottle to keep hydrated while reading in the sun.
- A few treats to enjoy while diving into a good book.
These welcome bags are part of our wider mission as a Reading School – where reading is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that stories have the power to build empathy, expand horizons, and ignite imagination. By encouraging our new students to read over the summer, we hope to help them feel confident, connected, and ready for the exciting journey ahead.
We can’t wait to hear what our new Year 7s think of Kick and to see how they tackle the reading challenge. Happy reading!
